Transport

New Zealand has always presented transport challenges with its topography and demographics. Good Supply Chain management adds the challenge of JIT (Just-In-Time) to a country that relies on imports and exports.

All these factors mean that as 3rd party Logistics providers we have to manage a wide range of transport modes and service standards for each of our clients. Each order requires a unique decision to ensure the best service/price mix for our clients and their customers.

We are also increasingly involved with calculating and on-charging freight to client’s customers as our clients recognise that, to be competitive, they must put costs where they lie. This is particularly important for inter-island transport.

To be an effective transport manager
we are involved with:

  • Road, rail and air for parcel, pallet and full-truck and container loads.
  • Managing service expectations ranging from same day metropolitan through to two and three day inter-island deliveries.
  • Electronic manifesting with main transport providers – this is used for both track and trace and for supplier generated invoicing.
  • Web based track and trace systems throughout the Freightways Group.
